Frequently Asked Questions

A podiatrist is a foot doctor or a doctor of podiatric medicine (DPM) who has specialized training to diagnose and treat abnormal conditions of the foot, ankle, and connecting parts of the lower leg.

Podiatrists treat common conditions of the foot and ankle, including:

  • Arthritis
  • Diabetic Foot Care and Wound Care
  • Foot and Ankle Injuries (Sprains, Strains, and Fractures)
  • Muscle and Tendon Problems (Heel Pain and Tendinitis)
  • Skin Disorders (Athlete’s Foot, Corns and Calluses, Ganglion Cysts, and Warts)
  • Toe Joint and Nerve Disorders (Bunions, Hammer Toes, Neuromas, Toenail Problems, Ingrown Toenails, and Toenail Fungus)

You should see a podiatrist if you are experiencing pain in the foot or ankle and symptoms haven’t improved after 1 or 2 days.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, please call us to schedule an appointment:

  • Severe pain
  • Swelling
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Open sore or wound
  • Infection (redness, warmth, tenderness, or a fever)
  • Injury that restricts your ability to walk or put weight on your foot

At Advanced Foot & Ankle Wellness Center, Dr. Wawrzynek sees patients for several types of foot and ankle conditions, including but not limited to heel pain (plantar fasciitis, heel spurs), Achilles tendonitis, ankle sprains, foot pain, and sports injuries. She also offers second opinions for patients looking for conservative treatment options rather than undergoing surgery. Dr. Wawrzynek strongly believes in using the most conservative and natural methods to treat foot and ankle conditions.

Dr. Wawrzynek also provides pediatric foot care for children who may be flat-footed.

Your podiatrist will determine how long your treatment will last based on the severity of your foot or ankle condition or injury. This tends to vary from person to person. Sometimes treatments may require only one or two sessions, while other patients may need treatment for 3-4 months. During your consultation with Dr. Wawrzynek, she will discuss the treatment plan and expected timelines with you for your specific condition or injury.

Custom orthotics are medical devices prescribed by your podiatrist. They are usually inserted into your shoe to correct an abnormal or irregular gait or walking pattern. Orthotic devices are custom-made to help absorb shock and remove pressure and stress from painful areas in the foot and ankle during movement. Typically, your podiatrist uses casts, impressions, or scans to fit your foot perfectly for custom orthotics.

Advanced Foot and Ankle Wellness Center offers 3D Gait Analysis possibilities for patients who have concerns about the biomechanical movement of their bodies. If you experience foot or ankle pains triggered by exercise, it may be due to your gait. 3D Gait Analysis is the gold standard of gait analysis.

This technology is used to conduct a detailed biomechanical screening, including your leg’s structural alignment, range of motion of joints, and muscle strength. The results can then be used, for example, while planning treatment and recovery for athletes or when unloading arthritic joints.

At Advanced Foot & Ankle Wellness Center, we understand that surgery may be a scary prospect for some, so we strive to help you with your foot and ankle conditions in the most conservative and natural ways possible.

Additionally, patients who suffer from acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain now have access to innovative, non-invasive treatments that are considered excellent forms of regenerative medicine. By utilizing our extensive experience, knowledge, and technology, we can help you with your foot or ankle pain without a need for surgery.

Your body has an incredible ability to heal itself. We focus on that fact as we treat your foot or ankle condition and get you on your way to recovery.

At Advanced Foot & Ankle Wellness Center, we accept most types of insurance for your convenience. We can also submit your insurance paperwork for you so that you have one less thing to worry about as you undergo treatment.
